About me

I'm a Glasgow-based freelance editor, with a wealth of experience in the UK publishing industry, offering a range of editorial services to independent authors.

As an assistant editor at 4th Estate, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers UK, I was closely involved in publishing some of the most well-established names in the industry, including Jonathan Franzen, Hilary Mantel, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Jon McGregor.

But the most rewarding aspect of my job was finding that author who hadn’t quite had the break they deserve, and amplifying their unique voice for the world to hear. The highlight of my career is a book named Scabby Queen. I worked closely with the author, Kirstin Innes, on several rounds of edits, making sure every story beat and word choice allowed that novel to shine. The hard work we put in together brought Kirstin the greatest success of her career and thousands of new readers.

I’ve helped take non-fiction projects from a vague outline to critically acclaimed memoirs, working closely with the author to help make their brilliant ideas an even better reality. I’ve found those crucial flaws in manuscripts that, once addressed, can lift a novel from a decent first draft to a stunning debut. I’ve helped to craft that perfect pitch to catch the eyes of agents, editors and readers.

I love finding new stories – now let me help readers find yours.

Testimonials

Kirstin Innes
Author of Scabby Queen

"Jordan is hands down the best editor I've worked with. His passion for and championing of my book, his clear understanding of and support for what I was trying to do, and his light but effective touch on line edits all contributed hugely to the success of my novel Scabby Queen. I would work with him again in a heartbeat."

Ece Temelkuran
Author of The Women Who Blow on Knots

Jordan Mulligan is a passionate and patient editor who gave a lot to How to Lose a Country and Together: A Manifesto Against a Heartless World. He was not only the brilliant editor of these books, but he also took the long and excruciating journey with me as the solid companion.
